Division of IT: About The Division
Project Management OfficeThe Division of IT's Project Management Office (PMO) provides staff supervision for our portfolio of approximately 50 to 70 in-progress IT projects. The PMO is responsible for developing and enforcing a standardized protocol based on industry standards (see process graphic). The protocol describes a process to ensure projects are completed on-time, within budget, and in accordance with the customer's quality expectations. The Division of IT's project management organizational structure is a hybrid of central project managers assigned to the PMO and decentralized project managers reporting to Division of IT functional leads. There are twelve staff having full- or part-time project management duties. Ten of our project managers have earned the coveted Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. The PMO is also responsible for administering a database containing information regarding all pending, current and past projects and facilitating the Division of IT's Project Governance Committee (PGC), which meets twice per month. The PGC, composed of the VP for IT/chief information officer and his direct reports, provides project oversight by selecting, prioritizing, monitoring, and assessing the effectiveness of projects in accordance with our strategic plan priorities. Project governance is essential due to the inevitable physical, human, and financial resource constraints and assists the PMO in communicating and coordinating project activities across functional boundaries. |
